Companionship Program     Top of page

What is it?
A program that offers volunteers an opportunity to brighten the day of elders by visiting with them in their homes. Volunteer companions may offer personal errands, transportation to medical appointments, lunch outings, and respite for caregivers.

Who can volunteer? 
Anyone willing to share a smile.

What areas does Bristol serve? 
Greater Attleboro, greater Fall River and greater Taunton.

Will I be paid for my travel?
Yes.

How much time will it take? 
Volunteers often commit to one or two hours per week.  There are many opportunities.  Schedules are flexible and can be worked out to best fit your lifestyle.

Long Term Care Ombudsman Program      Top of page

What is it?
A program that offers volunteers an opportunity to help residents of nursing homes and rest homes resolve their problems.  Volunteers play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life in nursing and rest homes by providing advocacy, resolution of concerns and complaints, and information and referral.

Who can volunteer? 
Anyone 18 years of age or older with good listening skills and a means of transportation.

Greater Attleboro, greater Fall River and greater Taunton.

Will I be paid for my travel?
Yes.

How much time will it take?
Volunteers must commit to 3 hours per week.

Meals on Wheels      Top of Page


What is it?
A program that offers volunteers an opportunity to deliver nutritious meals to homebound elders.  Volunteer drivers not only provide a meal, but also a safety check and a friendly hello!

Who can volunteer?
Anyone 18 years of age or older with a means of transportation.  Volunteers are needed for both regular and substitute routes.

What areas does Bristol serve? 
Greater Attleboro, greater Fall River and greater Taunton.

Will I be paid for my travel?
Yes.

How much time will it take?
Meals are delivered Monday through Friday during the hours of 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Volunteers determine what days and hours fit their schedules.

Lunch Centers      Top of Page 


What is it?
A program that offers volunteers an opportunity to assist with setting tables, serving a noontime meal and cleaning up at a lunch center.  At many sites, volunteers also assist with the packaging of food for Meals on Wheels.

Who can volunteer? 
Anyone 18 years of age or older.

What areas does Bristol serve? 
Greater Attleboro, greater Fall River and greater Taunton.

How much time will it take? 
Lunch centers are open Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Brown Bags Program      Top of Page


What is it? 
A program that offers volunteers the opportunity to bag and deliver groceries for needy elders.  Volunteers spend a few hours each month unloading the delivery truck, filling grocery bags, carrying bags to the cars of the recipients or delivering bags to homebound recipients. 

Who can volunteer?
Anyone capable of some physical bending, lifting and carrying.

What areas does Bristol serve? 
Greater Fall River and greater Taunton.

How much time will it take? 
In Fall River, Brown Bag days are on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.  In Taunton, they are on the 4th Wednesday.  In each location, help is needed from about 10 a.m. until the work is done, usually just a few hours.

Where do I go to volunteer? 
In Fall River:  the Armory on Bank Street.
In Taunton:  the Columbia Cultural Center in Myles Standish Industrial Park.
